Perfect English Study Plan

How to Start Learning English with a Smile

Smile and Learn English

Then you have come the right way to learning English. Fantastic! Whether you dream of improving your Shakespeare, ordering a coffee in New York without tripping over yourself or just want to add an extra language under belt then this is the place for it. A good study plan for English is much like a perfect pizza, takes just the right ingredients and touch of effort to cook it up with some extra fun on top. We are going to check the steps and of course having some humor while doing that…

Step 1: Set Clear Goals (And Be Realistic!)

You should be clear before you start swimming in the ocean of English grammar and vocabulary. Is it for travel? Business? To impress someone special? Being clear on your why is key to staying with it.

Pro Tip: The more granular your segmentation, the better. So instead of writing, “I want to learn English” write “I would like to be able to maintain a conversation in English for 10 minutes by the end of three months.”

Step 2: Assess Your Current Level

Understanding your starting point is crucial. Are you a complete beginner or do you already know some basics? There are plenty of online tests that can help you figure out your level.

Tip: Don’t be discouraged if you’re a beginner. Everyone starts somewhere, and the only way is up!

Step 3: Choose the Right Materials

And now, we are at the interesting turning point. Learning materials are not one-size-fits-all. Textbooks, apps and online courses or even netflix ( binge watching can be educational)

Pro Tip: Mix up where you look to keep things as fresh and interesting. I use Duolingo for short daily practice, and I love grammar books like "English Grammar in Use" to learn from a book but also videos (like Friends! — funny) so well recommended.

Step 4: Create a Study Schedule (And Stick to It!)

Consistency is key. Set aside a specific time each day for your English studies. Even 15-20 minutes a day can make a big difference.

Tip: Treat your study time like a date with your favorite celebrity. You wouldn’t cancel on them, right? So, don’t cancel on your study sessions!

Step 5: Practice, Practice, Practice

Language learning is like going to the gym – you need to work out those language muscles regularly. Practice speaking, writing, listening, and reading.

Tip: Find a language exchange partner or join a conversation club. Talking to real humans is much more fun than talking to yourself in the mirror.

Step 6: Immerse Yourself

Surround yourself with English. Change your phone’s language settings, listen to English music, watch movies, read books, and try to think in English.

Tip: Don’t just stick to the classics. Modern shows, YouTube channels, and podcasts can be equally beneficial and more aligned with contemporary language use.

Step 7: Track Your Progress

Keep a journal of your progress. Note down new words you’ve learned, phrases you’ve mastered, and the milestones you’ve hit.

Tip: Celebrate your victories, no matter how small. Did you order a coffee in English without sweating bullets? Treat yourself!

Step 8: Don’t Be Afraid to Make Mistakes

Mistakes are a natural part of learning. Embrace them and learn from them.

Tip: Remember, even native speakers make mistakes. If they can mess up, so can you!

Step 9: Get Feedback

Find someone who can give you constructive feedback – a teacher, a friend, or even an online tutor.

Tip: Constructive criticism is gold. It helps you see what you might be missing and how you can improve.

Step 10: Keep It Fun

The best way to stick with something is to enjoy it. If you’re having fun, you’re more likely to keep going.

Tip: Mix in activities you enjoy. Love cooking? Try following an English recipe. Into sports? Watch and learn from English commentary.

Learning English is a journey, not a race. It requires patience, persistence, and a good sense of humor. By setting clear goals, using the right materials, and immersing yourself in the language, you’ll be ordering that coffee in New York or discussing Shakespeare in no time. Remember, every step forward, no matter how small, is progress.

Now, go out there and conquer English – and don’t forget to have a little fun along the way. Happy learning!
